Adding a New Instance

You can add an Instance of a test to set new properties and define new behavior for an Assessment.

Creating an Instance also creates a "snapshot" of the mapped Assessment and all mapped Questions and Answers. Every time the Instance is administered, the snapshot is utilized in displaying the Questions and Answers. Any subsequent changes made to any manual mapped Question or Answer will not be reflected unless you add a new Instance.

On the ControlPanel:

Click on the Assessments/Surveys menu to expand it.
Click Instances.
Click Add Instance.

Click Select Assessment to choose the Assessment for this new Instance.

Use the filters to display the Assessment you want.

Type an Instance Name. (You can type up to 255 characters.)
Type any Pre-Instructions you want the User to see at the beginning of the Assessment.

Example: This test has 10 questions. You must score at least 80% to pass the test.

Type any Post-Instructions the User should see at the end of the Assessment.

Example: We hope you are pleased with your score.

Select one of the following for Status:

Active - makes the Instance Active.
Inactive - makes the Instance Inactive.

Click the Insert into Global Catalog check box to make the Instance available to all LearnCenters.

Clear the check box to make the Question available only to the current LearnCenter.

The Insert into Global Catalog check box displays if global sharing is enabled. See Global Sharing for additional information.

Select one item from Select the LearnCenter item type to associate the assessment with drop-down box:

LearnCenter Page - this option places the Assessment or Assessment Instance behind the scenes in the LearnCenter until you attach it to something, such as an Assignment or an Enrollment.
User - this option is for Performance Reviews. The individual selected or mapped to this Instance is the User to be reviewed. Later, you will add an Assignment or Enrollment to identify the Users who are to complete the review.
Course - this option links the instance to a WBT within the LearnCenter.
Enrollment - this option links the instance to an Enrollment within the LearnCenter
Appraisal - this option links the Instance to a Performance Appraisal.

If you selected Course from the Select the LearnCenter item type to associate the assessment with drop-down list, the Select Course button displays.

Click Select Course, and use the filters to select the Course you want to associate to the Instance.

Type the Time limit (in minutes) for completing the Assessment.
Click one of the following for Paging:

Show All - to display all Questions on a single page. (Default)
Show Number of Questions per page - to display the total number of Questions you typed in the field on a single page.
Show Questions grouped by category - to allow categorized Questions to be displayed by mapped Category. Any Questions not mapped to a Category display on the last page. The last page does not display a Category header in this scenario.

If you select Show Questions grouped by category and the Question is mapped to multiple Categories, then the first mapped Category is considered the mapped Category. In addition, this option groups all Assessments in the Category field of the Edit Assessments page by Category.

Show Category in Header - to display the Category in the header.

If the Assessment is mapped to multiple Categories, the first Category displays as the header. If you click the Next button, the second Category name display as the header.

Type the Limit # of views to specify how many times a User can open the Assessment to look at Questions.
Type the Limit # of submissions to specify the number of times a User can take the Assessment.
Type the Completion Credits a User receives for completing the Assessment.
Select one of the following for Randomize question order:

No - does not randomize the order of Questions and Answers for each User. (Default)
Yes - randomizes the order of Questions and Answers for each User.

Select one of the following for Randomize answer order (multi-choice questions only):

No - does not randomize the order of multiple choice Answers for each User. (Default)
Yes -randomizes the order of multiple choice Answers for each User.

Do not select Yes for this option if your Answer choices contain “All of the above.”

Select one of the following for Show Missed Questions Only:

Yes - displays Questions answered incorrectly and enables Users to answer them again, even though it does not affect their scores.
No - does not display Questions answered incorrectly. (Default)

This option only displays if you selected Course from the Select the LearnCenter item type to associate the assessment with drop-down list.

Select one of the following for Type of assessment:

Pre-Test - displays before a WBT.
Post-Test - displays after a WBT.
Feedback Survey - displays after a WBT.
In Course - displays during the Course.

Select one of the following for Show results:

No - results are not displayed to Users after they submit the Assessment. (Default)
Yes - results are displayed to Users after they submit the Assessment. Results include the number of Questions answered correctly and incorrectly.

Select one of the following for Show details:
No - details are not displayed to Users after they submit an Assessment.
Yes - details are displayed to Users after they submit an Assessment. When Users submit the Assessment, all Questions are displayed to them, showing their Answers and the correct Answers. (Default)

If you selected Yes for the Show details option, the Show Incorrect Responses Only, Show Only User Responses, and Show Point Value options display. See Instances Results Page Examples for additional information.

Click one of the following for Show Incorrect Responses Only:

No - to show correct and incorrect responses to Questions. (Default)
Yes - to show a User only those questions that were missed in the test results. All Questions answered correctly do not display.

Click one of the following for Show User Responses only:

No - to display to the Users Answers for all Questions, whether they provided Answers to them or not. (Default)
Yes - to display to Users only the Answers they provided for Questions. No other Answers will be displayed.

If you set Show only User Responses to Yes, the author feedback displays after the Your answer section. If you set Show only User Responses to No, the author feedback displays beneath the respective answer and not underneath the Your answer section.

Click one of the following for Show Point Value:

No - to show the point value for each Question and Answer.
Yes - to hide the point values for each Question and Answer. (Default)

Select one of the following for Show author feedback:

No - does not display feedback to Users. (Default)
Yes - displays feedback, if provided, once Users submit the Assessment.

Select one of the following for Required:

No - specifies that the test does not have to be taken to get credit for completing the Course. (Default).
Yes - specifies that the test must be taken to get credit for completing the Course.

Selecting Yes for Required for a post-test assessment only requires the user to view the post-test page in order for a Course to go to Completed. Users do not have to answer any of the post-test questions or answer them correctly unless a Minimum Passing Score for Completion is also set.

This field does not display if you selected In Course from the Type of Assessment drop-down list.

Select one of the following for Show results in Gradebook:

No - does not display the score and details in the Gradebook for Pre- and Post-Tests. (Default)
Yes - displays the score and details in the Gradebook for Pre- and Post-Tests.

Select one of the following for Score of Record for Course:

Yes - makes the test results the score of record for the Course (shows on reports) for Pre- and Post-Tests.
No - does not make the test results the score of record for the Course (shows on reports) for Pre- and Post-Tests. (Default)

Type the Exemption Score for Course.

This field only displays if you selected Course from the Select the LearnCenter item type to associate the assessment with drop-down list and Pre-Test from the Type of Assessment drop-down list.

Type the Minimum Passing Score for Completion.

This field only displays if you selected Course from the Select the LearnCenter item type to associate the assessment with drop-down list and Post-Test from the Type of Assessment drop-down list.

Leave the Post Comments check box un-checked. This check box was originally designed for use with a feature that has been retired.

Select the Customization Required check box if you want to use the default customization. The default customization uses the .XSL file that was selected on the Configuration Options page.
or
Clear the check box if you do not want to add customization to the results page.
or
Select the Customization Required check box and click Select if you want to override the default customization and specify an .XSL file to customize results display for that Instance only.

This functionality can optionally be applied to the entire LearnCenter by default. You can override the default or specify customization at the instance level through the Customization Required field. Customization is done via an .XSL file.

You must first upload the Cascading Style Sheet (CSS) file to the Resource Manager and add your own .XSL file in Configuration Options. See the chapter called "Resource Manager" for additional information about uploading files to the Resource Manager.

Uploading a CSS file is optional. You can either create the CSS and XSL files or they can be created by Taleo Learn.

Type the name of the file or click Browse to search for and select the .XLS file you want to use.
Click Upload File. When the upload is complete, click .
Click Save.
