Downloading a Source File and Opening it For Editing

Bulk Data Loader comes with standard down-loadable templates that you can use to enter data in either a tab delimited text file format, or in a spreadsheet using software like Microsoft® Excel. These become the "source files"; the files you will use to upload information to Bulk Loader.

Bulk Loader performance is optimized to process source files that have a maximum of 5000 rows.

To download a Bulk Loader Source File from LearnCenter and open it in Microsoft® Excel for editing:

On the Control Panel:

  1. Click on the Integrations menu to expand it.
  2. Click Bulk Data Loader.
  3. On the Bulk Loader Page, click the hyperlink for the Source File type you want to create. A Text file (.TXT) opens in a browser window.
  4. Save the file to a location on your hard drive or network drive.
  5. Open the file using Microsoft® Excel.
  1. Open Microsoft® Excel.
  2. Click File > Open.
  3. Navigate to your saved file and click Open. The Text Import Wizard window opens.

  1. Select Delimited and click Next.

  1. Select Tab as the Delimiter and click Next.

  1. Select General as the Column data format, and then click Finish.

The spreadsheet opens with the appropriate column headings already pre-populated. Treat each row on the spreadsheet as a separate ILT event or Enrollment. The first column is the name of the event. All columns are named exactly like their matching fields in LearnCenter so that you know precisely what information goes where.

See Requirements for Bulk Loader Source Files for additional information about inputting your data.
